Scalloped Tomatoes or Potatoes

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Butter a baking dish.

  2. Layer cracker crumbs and slices of tomatoes alternately until the dish is full.

  3. Season each layer with butter, pepper, and coarse sea salt.

  4. Nearly fill the dish with milk.

  5. Bake for 1 hour at 350°F (175°C).

  6. For scalloped potatoes, use thinly sliced cold boiled potatoes and flavor with onions if desired.
