Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Absorbs stock and cooks to a tender, starchy filling that holds the stuffing together.
Butter
Fat that browns the rice and onions, adding flavour and richness.
Onions
Softened in butter to add sweetness and savoury depth to the stuffing.
Hard-boiled eggs
Add a soft, firm texture and richness to the stuffing.

The step that matters

Cooking the rice until nearly dry. Adding stock gradually and stopping once the rice is nearly dry keeps it tender without becoming soggy. Wet rice makes the stuffing heavy and can keep it from holding its shape inside the chicken.
