Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Parboiled cabbage
Forms the outer shell that holds the stuffing while it stews.
Egg yolks
Bind the stuffing so it holds together when cooked.
Breadcrumbs or cold boiled rice
Absorb moisture and add body to the stuffing.
Minced meat or fish
Provides the savoury filling that flavours the cabbage.

The step that matters

Tie the cabbage neatly. A loose or poorly tied cabbage can open during simmering, letting the stuffing escape into the stock and leaving the filling loose and uneven.
