What each ingredient does

Grated cheese
Provides the main flavor and, once melted, binds the balls together.
Eggs
Bind the mixture and set when baked, holding the balls together.
Bread crumbs
Absorb moisture and give the mixture a softer, less dense body.
Crushed cracker crumbs
Form a crisp, browned outer coating during baking.
