Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Meadow mushrooms
Provide the main body and earthy flavour of the dish.
Cream
Adds richness and moisture, giving the mixture a smooth, rich texture.
Flour
Thickens the cream as it heats, so the mixture becomes smooth and coats the mushrooms.
Butter
Adds fat and flavour for gently cooking the mushrooms.

The step that matters

Adding the flour and cream mixture. Flour must be blended smoothly into cream before it goes in, otherwise it clumps. Stirring as the mixture heats lets the starch swell and thicken evenly into a smooth sauce.
