Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pineapple
Provides the main fruit flavor and bulk of the preserve, with juice that helps form the syrup.
Coconut
Adds body and a rich, chewy texture as its moisture cooks into the sweet mass.
Sugar
Sweetens the preserve and, once boiled into syrup, helps it thicken and set as it cools.

The step that matters

Stirring the fruit into the syrup. Sugar syrup and fruit must be cooked until the mass thickens and the pot bottom shows clearly during stirring. Stopping early leaves the preserve runny, while overcooking can make it hard and sticky once cooled.

Swap the coconut

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pineapple, sugar):

  2. Bananafits better
