Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Farina
Swells and thickens in boiling liquid, giving the pudding its body and soft structure.
Eggs
Set when heated, binding the pudding and giving it a firm, custard-like texture.
Milk
Supplies liquid and richness, keeping the pudding moist and tender as it bakes.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps balance the flavor of the milk and eggs.

The step that matters

Stirring the beaten eggs and sugar into the farina. Eggs scramble if they meet very hot mixture too quickly. Stir steadily so the eggs blend evenly and set smoothly during baking rather than forming lumps.

Swap the nutmeg

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, milk, egg):

  1. Cinnamonfits better
  2. Nutmegthe original
  3. Gingerfits less well
  4. Allspicefits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, milk, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
