Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. In a bowl, cream together the Cottolene and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the beaten egg yolks and mix well.

  4. Stir in the milk and flour, alternating between the two.

  5. Add the flavoring and gently fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.

  6. Pour the batter into prepared cake pans and bake until golden brown.

  7. For the icing, mix the powdered sugar, Cottolene, chocolate or cocoa, and cream until smooth.

  8. Spread the icing over the cooled cake.
