What each ingredient does

Banquet tea
Provides the main flavor and aroma of the drink.
Fresh boiling water
Extracts flavor and color from the tea leaves as it steeps.

The step that matters

Steep for the stated time. Steeping longer than directed releases more tannins from the leaves, which makes the tea taste bitter and astringent. Stopping too early leaves it weak and thin in flavor.
