Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main protein and body; cooking to tenderness lets the meat be shredded and pressed together.
Cooking liquid (in the method)
Adds moisture and flavour, helping the chopped meat bind and stay juicy once pressed and chilled.

The step that matters

Press the mixture into a brick shape. Pressing under a heavy weight while chilled squeezes out excess liquid and packs the chopped meat so it holds its shape when sliced. Too little pressure or time leaves it crumbly.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, lemon):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Marjoramfits about as well
  3. Rosemaryfits about as well
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
