What each ingredient does

Spruce buds
Provide the main resinous, aromatic flavor that the spirit extracts over the infusion.
Corn spirit
Acts as the solvent that pulls aromatic compounds out of the spruce buds.
Distilled or soft water
Dilutes the spirit and helps extract more flavor from the buds during soaking.

The step that matters

Agitate the infusion 2 to 3 times a day. Stirring keeps buds in contact with the spirit and redistributes dissolved flavor compounds, so extraction is even rather than concentrated in the layer near the buds.
