Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Prepare

  1. Boil the cabbage until tender, then drain it.

  2. Chop the cabbage into small pieces and season with a little vinegar, pepper, and salt, adding a little butter.

  3. Butter a pie dish and scatter some bread crumbs over it.

Bake

  1. Put the seasoned cabbage in the dish and lay the slices of bacon on top.

  2. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
