Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Whole rice
Starch that softens as it absorbs milk, forming a thick, creamy base that holds its shape.
Milk
Cooks into the rice, adding richness and moisture to the filling.
Sugar
Sweetens the rice as it cooks in the milk.
Egg
Beaten egg coats the balls and helps the bread crumbs stick.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, golden outer layer when fried.
Butter
Fat for frying that browns the outside and adds flavor.

The step that matters

Let the rice cool completely before shaping. Warm rice is soft and sticky, so the balls can break apart or stick to your hands. Once cooled and firmer, it holds its shape through the egg and crumb coating and frying.

Swap the lemon
