Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Salmon
Forms the main body of the dish and is cooked gently by steam in its tin.
Milk
Forms the liquid base of the bechamel sauce, giving it a smooth, pourable body.
Butter
Enriches the bechamel sauce and carries flavour while the flour is cooked into it.
Flour
Thickens the bechamel sauce by binding with the butter and absorbing the milk.
