Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground rice
Thickens the broth into a lightly body-rich texture as its starch gelatinizes during simmering.
Chicken
Releases flavor and gelatin into the water during long simmering, giving the broth its body and taste.

The step that matters

Removing the grease after straining. Fat floats on the surface of a long-simmered broth and can make it greasy and heavy. Skimming or straining it off before adding the rice gives a clean, smooth result.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, rice):

  1. Turmericfits better
  2. Garlicfits better
  3. Corianderfits better
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, rice. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
