Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Malaga raisins
Supply the sugars and fruit flavour that the wine ferments and carries.
Hops
Add bitterness and aroma that balance the sweetness of the raisins.
French brandy
Raises the alcohol content and helps preserve the finished wine.

The step that matters

Let it stand for 6 weeks, stirring daily. Stirring keeps the raisin solids in contact with the liquid and prevents a crust from forming on top. Fermentation needs steady contact and air exchange to proceed evenly.

Swap the raisin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (hops, brandy):

  1. Applefits better
  2. Grapefits better
  3. Peachfits better
  4. Raisinthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against hops, brandy. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
