Ingredients

Directions

  1. Wash currants in two cold waters and dry them thoroughly.

  2. Sprinkle salt into the flour in a bowl.

  3. Rub in the dripping until well combined.

  4. Add sugar and currants to the flour mixture.

  5. Crack the egg into a separate bowl to check its quality, then beat it.

  6. Mix the yeast and milk into the beaten egg.

  7. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the flour mixture to form a smooth paste.

  8. Knead the dough well and let it rise for 20 minutes.

  9. Shape the dough into buns, teacakes, or a loaf and place on a baking tin.

  10. Let the shaped dough rise again for a few minutes before baking.

  11. Rub a little dripping in the baking tin to prevent sticking.
