Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Trout
Forms the main body of the dish and becomes tender while it simmers.
Truffles
Adds a strong, earthy aroma to the stuffing.
Bread crumbs
Bind the stuffing and form a crisp golden coating when fried.
Butter
Adds richness and helps the stuffing brown in the pan.
Egg
Acts as a binder so the bread crumb coating sticks to the trout.

The step that matters

Simmering the stuffed trout. Simmering gently keeps the delicate fish moist and firm while cooking through. A hard boil can break the fish apart and cause the stuffing to leak out.

Swap the chervil
