Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Breadcrumbs
Absorb the hot milk and form the body of the pudding.
Eggs
Bind the mixture and set it into a soft, custard-like texture.
Milk
Softens the breadcrumbs and adds moisture for a tender crumb.
Butter
Adds richness and fat for a softer, more tender texture.
Sugar
Sweetens the pudding and balances the citrus.
Oranges
Provide aroma and bright flavour from the rind and juice.

The step that matters

When cool, add the beaten eggs. Eggs set when heated, so adding them to a very hot mixture can scramble them. Letting the base cool first keeps the pudding smooth and evenly textured.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (butter, milk, sugar, egg):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Figfits better
  3. Coconutfits better
  4. Orangethe original
