Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the main flavor and a soft, smooth body when mashed.
Sweet cream
Adds richness and moisture, giving the set dessert a creamy texture.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and balances the mild flavor of the bananas.
Jelly powder
Gels the mixture so it holds its shape when chilled.

The step that matters

Let the jelly cool slightly before adding it. Hot gelatin-based jelly can thin the cream and separate or weaken the set, while cooled jelly mixes in evenly and sets firmly.

Swap the nuts

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (banana, cream, sugar):

  1. Hazelnutfits better
  2. Almondfits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against banana, cream, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
