Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cold roast veal
Forms the main body of the filling, giving the spread its substance and bulk.
Flour
Thickens the sauce so it binds the minced veal and holds it on the bread.
Butter
Enriches the sauce and adds richness and flavour to the filling.
Stock
Provides the liquid base of the sauce, adding savoury flavour and moisture.

The step that matters

Make thoroughly hot in the oven. The veal is already cooked, so the goal is only to heat it through. Heating it fully without drying it out keeps the filling moist and the bread crisp.
