What each ingredient does

Leftover vegetables
Form the bulk of the dish and provide its texture once chopped and cooked through.
Butter
Coats the pan to prevent sticking and adds richness and flavor to the hash.

The step that matters

Cover quickly to trap steam and heat thoroughly.. Trapped steam heats the chopped vegetables through evenly, so they cook without drying out. Leaving the pan uncovered too long lets moisture escape and slows heating.

Swap the parsnip

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cabbage, potato, pepper, butter):

  1. Chivefits better
  2. Leekfits better
  3. Capsicumfits better
  4. Parsnipthe original
