What each ingredient does

Grapes
Supply the juice and the main fruit flavor of the drink.
White sugar
Adds sweetness that balances the tartness of the grape juice.
Cold water
Dilutes the juice so it is lighter and more refreshing to drink.

The step that matters

Stir in the sugar until completely melted. Sugar dissolves more slowly in cold liquid, so stirring until no crystals remain keeps the sweetness even and prevents grainy sugar settling at the bottom of the jug.
