Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set when baked, giving the bake its firm, sliceable structure.
Mushrooms
Add earthy flavor and moisture that cooks down into the filling.
Vegetable broth
Provides liquid and savory flavor, reduced to thicken the mushroom mixture.
Green onions
Add mild onion aroma and a fresh bite to the filling.

The step that matters

Bake until set. Eggs firm as their proteins coagulate with heat. Pulling the cups too early leaves a runny centre, while overbaking makes the texture rubbery.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pepper, parsley, mushroom, egg, butter):

  1. Shallotfits better
  2. Capsicumfits better
  3. Spinachfits better
  4. Onionthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against pepper, parsley, mushroom, egg, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
