Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Veal
Provides the main protein and meaty body of the dish.
Rice
Absorbs liquid and adds starchy bulk around the veal.
Mace
Adds a warm, aromatic spice flavor to the rice.

The step that matters

Stirring the rice occasionally. Rice settles and sticks to the bottom of the pot as it cooks, and the starch can scorch there. Occasional stirring keeps the grains moving and evenly heated.

Swap the mace

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (veal, rice):

  1. Turmericfits better
  2. Celeryfits better
  3. Parsleyfits better
  4. Macethe original
