To Bottle Gooseberries
Ingredients
Directions
Pick the gooseberries and place them in clean, dry bottles.
Boil spring water with a small bit of alum, then let it cool.
Fill the bottles with the cooled water.
Place the bottles in a pan of cold water and set on the fire.
When the gooseberries look white, remove the pan from the fire and let it cool.
Carefully take the bottles out, cork them, and seal with papers brushed with beaten egg white, pressing the edges down.
