Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Trout
Forms the main body of the dish and carries the stuffing while it cooks.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and earthy flavour to the stuffing.
Truffles
Add a strong aroma to the stuffing.
Eggs
Bind the breadcrumb coating to the fish and help it brown when fried.
Breadcrumbs
Form a crisp golden crust when fried.

The step that matters

Frying the breaded trout. The fish is already cooked and cooled, so the frying only needs to brown the coating. Too much heat can scorch the breadcrumbs before the crust is golden, while too little heat lets the coating absorb excess oil and turn greasy.

Swap the tomato

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mushroom, truffle, pepper, egg, sauce):

  1. Asparagusfits better
  2. Capsicumfits better
  3. Shallotfits better
  4. Tomatothe original

Fit is the average pairing score against mushroom, truffle, pepper, egg, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
