Why it works: Wheat and rye match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 1% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 404 recipes. Both carry coumarin, which smells sweet, hay. The science ↓
Wisdom Coffee
Ingredients
Directions
Prepare
Roast the wheat, barley, and rye mixture in the oven.
Measure 3 tablespoons of the coffee blend for every quart of water.
Brew
Tie a flannel cloth or two layers of butter cloth over the pot.
Add the finely ground cereal and pour 1 cup of water over it.
Let it stand for 1 minute.
Pour the remaining boiling water over the grounds.
Cover tightly and set over the fire for 1 minute without boiling.
Once the water drains from the grounds, remove the cloth.
Serve
Serve the hot coffee with cream in the cup, pouring the coffee over it.
