Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Crab meat
Forms the main body of the filling and provides the dish's flavour.
Bread crumbs
Absorb moisture in the filling and form a crisp, browned topping.
Butter
Adds richness and fat, helping the top brown and the filling stay moist.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the rich crab and butter flavours.

The step that matters

Baking until golden brown. The crumb topping browns through Maillard reactions at oven heat, but over-baking dries the crab meat and toughens its proteins. Check colour and watch the time closely.

Swap the white pepper

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (crab, meat, bread, pepper, nutmeg, butter, lemon):

  1. Parsleyfits better
