What each ingredient does

Tea
Provides the main flavour and aroma, which is released into the water during steeping.

The step that matters

Steeping time. Steeping too long draws out tannins, which make tea bitter and astringent. Timing the steep to 3 to 4 minutes, then serving promptly, keeps the flavour balanced.
