Mutton Pie

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point. The book gives no cooking times either; the times in the steps were added in transcription, so check for doneness rather than trusting the clock.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Prepare the pastry and line a pie dish.

  3. Chop the mutton trimmings and season with salt and pepper.

  4. Place the seasoned meat in the pie crust.

  5. Add a little water to keep the filling moist.

  6. Cover with another layer of pastry and seal the edges.

  7. Cut a few slits in the top crust for steam to escape.

  8. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
