Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Aspic jelly
Sets into a clear gel that holds the shrimps, egg and parsley in shape.
Shrimps
Provide the main seafood filling and flavor of the molded dish.
Hard boiled egg
Adds firm texture and a mild, rich contrast to the shrimp layers.

The step that matters

Line small molds with aspic jelly. Aspic must be cool and just beginning to thicken before it is poured, so it sets into a firm, even coating; if too warm it can run and blur the decoration, and if too cold it sets unevenly.

Swap the lettuce

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (shrimp, parsley, egg, pepper):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Chivefits better
  3. Asparagusfits better
  4. Lettucethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against shrimp, parsley, egg, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
