What each ingredient does

Blackberries
Provide the main fruit flavour, colour and natural sugars for the wine.
Sugar
Feeds the fermentation and adds sweetness to the finished wine.

The step that matters

Let it stand for 24 hours. The fruit must soak long enough for the juice to be extracted and for the wild yeasts on the skins to begin fermenting, which sets up the wine.
