Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cauliflower
Forms the body and bulk of the soup when mashed smooth.
Crushed tapioca
Thickens the soup as it simmers, giving it body.
Ground rice
Thickens the soup and gives it a smooth, velvety texture.
Cream
Adds richness and a smooth, silky mouthfeel.
Milk
Adds creaminess and body, softening the soup's flavour.

The step that matters

Heat gently without boiling again. Once cream is added, boiling can cause dairy to separate and curdle, and it can thicken starches unevenly, leaving the soup grainy. Keep it just hot.

Swap the cauliflower
