Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Absorbs the milk and swells to form the thick, sliceable body of the fritters.
Eggs
Set with the heat to bind the mixture so it holds its shape when cut.
Milk
Cooks into the rice, giving it a soft, creamy texture.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps the fried surface brown.
Orange marmalade
Adds sweetness, acidity and citrus aroma to the mixture.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and a softer, tender bite.

The step that matters

Drain well and serve. Fried batter holds oil on its surface, and excess oil left on the fritters makes them greasy and soft. Draining on absorbent paper lets the crisp coating set properly.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, sugar, butter, egg, milk):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Figfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, sugar, butter, egg, milk. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
