Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Mushrooms
Form the main body of the dish and soften into tender, juicy pieces when warmed.
Garlic
Adds pungent aroma that mellows as it cooks in the warm oil.
Olive oil
Carries flavor and moisture, helping the mushrooms warm and toss evenly.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the rich, earthy mushrooms.

The step that matters

Warming the mushrooms. Mushrooms release water and can steam rather than brown if the pan is crowded or not hot enough. Tossing over steady heat until warmed through keeps them tender and evenly seasoned without turning them soggy.
