Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg
Binds the bread crumb coating so it adheres to the fish while frying.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, browned crust around the fish when fried.
Flour
Dries the fish surface and helps the egg and crumb coating stick.

The step that matters

Frying in hot fat. Fat that is not hot enough lets the coating absorb oil and turn greasy, while overly hot fat can brown the crust before the fish cooks through. Keeping the fat hot and turning the fish gives an evenly crisp, fully cooked result.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (salmon, flour, egg, bread, pepper):

  1. Capersfits about as well
  2. Parsleythe original
  3. Nutmegfits about as well
  4. Turmericfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against salmon, flour, egg, bread, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
