What each ingredient does

Carrots
Provide the main body, sweetness and thickening starch of the soup once pureed.
Gravy-soup or bouillon
Supplies the savory broth base that carries the carrot flavor.

The step that matters

Gradually mix the pounded carrots with the boiling gravy-soup. Adding the purée slowly while the broth is hot helps it blend smoothly and evenly, so lumps do not form. Straining afterward removes any remaining fibers and bits for a smooth texture.

Swap the carrot

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pepper, bread):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatofits better
  3. Spinachfits about as well
  4. Carrotthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against pepper, bread. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
