Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hare
Provides the main meat and rich, gamey flavor to the soup.
Neck or shin of beef
Adds body and gelatin to the broth as it simmers slowly.
Rolls (in the method)
Soaked bread thickens the soup and binds the minced meat.

The step that matters

Skimming the broth after it boils. Foam and impurities rise to the surface as the liquid heats. Removing them early keeps the soup clear and free of bitter, muddy flavors.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (beef, onion, celery, carrot):

  1. Parsleyfits better
  2. Cuminfits better
  3. Thymefits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against beef, onion, celery, carrot. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
