Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Oranges
Peel oils give aroma and juice adds bright acidity.
Lemons
Juice adds sharp acidity and peel oils add fresh aroma.
Sugar
Sweetens the punch and draws flavor out of the peels.
New milk
Milk proteins bind with the citrus and help the punch clarify when strained.
Rum or brandy
Dissolves and carries the citrus peel aromas and adds warmth.

The step that matters

Strain through a jelly bag until clear. Milk added to citrus forms curds that cloud the punch. Straining until clear removes them, so the punch must not be bottled early.
