Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a fierce oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Grease tin pattypans with butter.

  3. Roll out the puff paste thinly and line the pattypans.

  4. Fill the lined pattypans with mincemeat.

  5. Moisten the edges of the pastry covers and place them on top.

  6. Trim off excess paste and make a small hole in the center of each pie.

  7. Ice the pies with cold water and sifted sugar if desired.

  8. Bake for 30 minutes, covering with paper if they brown too quickly.
