Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Morella cherries
Provide the fruit flavour and juice that mingles with the brandy over time.
Loaf sugar
Sweetens the brandy and draws juice from the cherries as it dissolves.
French brandy
Acts as the alcohol base that extracts flavour and preserves the fruit.

The step that matters

Pour in brandy until it reaches just below the cork. Leaving the fruit fully covered by alcohol helps prevent spoilage, while leaving a small gap avoids overflow and leakage when the bottle is corked.

Swap the almond

The recipe marks almond as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, brandy):

  1. Almondthe original
  2. Chestnutfits about as well
  3. Walnutfits less well
  4. Hazelnutfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, brandy. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
