What each ingredient does

Tea
Provides the main flavour and aroma as its compounds dissolve into the hot water.
Water
Acts as the solvent that extracts flavour from the tea leaves.

The step that matters

Let the tea steep for 3 minutes, then stir the tea leaves. Steeping time controls how much flavour and tannin leave the leaves. Too short gives weak tea, while too long can make it bitter and astringent.
