Dutch Stew

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Stew the mutton for 15 minutes.

  2. Add the onions (quartered) and carrot (cut into quarters), and a little salt; stew for 1 hour.

  3. Remove the string from the steak and place it on a dish; arrange the vegetables around it and pour the sauce over.

  4. Heat the dripping in a pot, then slice and gently fry the onions in it.

  5. Wash the mutton and place it in the pot with any water that clings to it; cover tightly and stew for 45 minutes.

  6. Wash the cabbage, remove withered leaves, and cut it into 8 pieces; place in water.

  7. Peel the potatoes and cut them into ½-inch thick slices; place in water.

  8. After 45 minutes, lift the cabbage and potatoes from the water and pack them around the meat.

  9. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, cover tightly, and stew for another 45 minutes.
