Omelet with Strawberries

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare the fruit

  1. Cut the strawberries into quarters and mix with sugar, orange zest, and rum in a bowl.

  2. Pass the remaining strawberries through a sieve to make a purée and sweeten it with orange sugar; set on ice.

Make and serve the omelette

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs with powdered sugar and cream for a few seconds.

  2. Melt the butter in a frying pan, then add the egg mixture and thicken the omelet with a spoon.

  3. Place the cut strawberries in the center of the omelet, fold the sides, and turn it onto a dish.

  4. Sift sugar with vanilla over the omelet, glaze it, and pour the strawberry purée around it.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set into a tender structure that gives the omelette its body.
Butter
Fats the pan so the eggs release cleanly and add richness.
Cream
Adds moisture and softness to the egg mixture.
Strawberries
Provide fresh fruit flavor, sweetness and juiciness inside the omelette.
Sugar
Sweetens the fruit, purée and glaze and helps the top caramelise lightly.

The step that matters

Thickening the omelette in the pan. Eggs cook quickly and turn rubbery if overheated. Keeping the heat moderate and stirring gently with a spoon yields a soft, creamy set rather than a dry, tough one.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pine, sugar, rum, strawberry, egg, cream, butter):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Bananafits better
  3. Pineapplefits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against pine, sugar, rum, strawberry, egg, cream, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
