Ointment for Ulcerated Liver, Ague Cake, &C.

Ingredients

• 1 handful smartweed
• 1 handful wormwood
• 1 handful bark of surtiao root
• ½ cup lard
• 1 teaspoon spirits of turpentine

Directions

1. Boil smartweed, wormwood, and bark of surtiao root together to extract strength.

2. Strain the mixture and boil down carefully to about 1 pint.

3. Add lard and simmer together.

4. When nearly cool, add spirits of turpentine.

5. Apply at night.
