To Keep Gooseberries
Ingredients
Directions
Gather gooseberries before they become too large, ensuring not to cut them off.
Fill wide-mouthed bottles with the gooseberries and place the corks loosely in.
Submerge the bottles in a boiler of water until the fruit looks scalded.
Remove the bottles and let them cool completely before corking tightly and sealing the tops with rosin.
Dig a trench in a less used part of the garden deep enough to hold the bottles, covering them with earth.
In winter, add fresh litter from the stable to prevent the ground from hardening.
