Elder Wine

Elder Wine

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare the juice

  1. Gather ripe elder berries.

  2. Place them in a stone jar or heat them in a kettle of boiling water until the jar is hot.

  3. Strain the berries through a fine cloth, wringing them to extract the juice into a clean kettle.

Make the wine

  1. Add 1 pound of fine sugar to every quart of juice and bring to a boil, skimming off any foam.

  2. Once clear, pour the mixture into a jar, cover it, and let it cool before storing until ready to make raisin wine.
