Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Carrots
Provide the main flavor and body, becoming soft and thick when cooked and pressed.
Butter
Adds richness and carries flavor as the carrots are gently stewed in it.
Brown gravy-soup
Supplies the liquid base that cooks the carrots and sets the soup's savory character.

The step that matters

Stew the carrots without browning. Gentle heat over low flame softens the carrots and draws out their sweetness; browning would add bitter, toasted notes that change the soup's clean flavor.

Swap the carrot

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (butter, pepper, bread):

  1. Capsicumfits better
