Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream
Whipped into stiff foam, it gives the dessert its light, airy texture.
Gelatin
Sets the mixture as it cools, giving it a firm yet tender body.
Sugar
Sweetens the dessert and, boiled into syrup, helps balance the pineapple's acidity.
Pineapple
Adds fruit flavor and moisture to the cream mixture.

The step that matters

Folding the syrup and pineapple into the whipped cream. Fold gently so the whipped cream keeps its air. Overmixing deflates the foam, and a dense, heavy custard results.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream, gelatin):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream, gelatin. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
